The furniture retailer IKEA wants to shake up the smart home market with its own lighting solution next year and now has the announced the upcoming launch of a new lamp collection.
The lineup, which will initially be available exclusively in Sweden, the Czech Republic, Italy and Belgium, includes LED bulbs, LED Light panels and doors with LED lighting.
According to the company, the launch of the new collection is the first step towards smart lighting and the second project for IKEA Home Smart. Most recently, IKEA’s Home Smart department was responsible for launching wireless products last year.
In Germany, the lamps that can be dimmed and (in three levels) switch between warm and cold light are expected to be available from April 2017.
IKEA Germany states:
The smart lighting collection includes TRÅDFRI LED lamps and remote control, FLOALT LED light panels and SURTE and JORMLIEN LED lighting doors for BESTÅ cabinets and METOD kitchen cabinets. This is a “plug and play” solution, which does not require a fixed installation by an electrician. The previous bulb is only to be exchanged for a TRÅDFRI LED bulb. Since the technique of changing the colors or dimming the light is in the lamp, TRÅDFRI can be used in any luminaire with a standard socket – even in very old luminaires. With a TRÅDFRI remote control up to ten light sources can be operated.
